March 2011 PMQG Meeting and Monochromatic Challenge

At the March meeting of the Philly Modern Quilt Guild, we shared the results of our labors on the Monochromatic Challenge.  We hosted a challenge similar to the one for the Modern Quilt Guild, but ours was a little more lenient.  We were able to add one neutral color and we had no specific size requirement.  Below are some photos of the quilts from those who participated.

Becky organized the challenge.  She made a big pinwheel-inspired quilt in blue.
Grace made some green placemats using string piecing.
Michelle made a St. Patrick's Day themed table runner.

Shamrocks on the back of Michelle's table runner.
Anna made two entries for the challenge.  The first is in shades of gray.
Anna wasn't sure she liked the first one, so next she made this one, dominated by reds.
Andrew made a Bargello quilt using blues.  Does it remind you of ocean waves at all?
Monica chose a blue theme too and made a very unique quilt with interesting angles and curves.
Amanda chose a purple theme and added gray as her neutral.

That's all the entries for the PMQG's Monochromatic Challenge.  Great job, everyone!  After sharing our pieces, we had general show and tell.  Below are some photos for your enjoyment.  We hope you can join us at our next meeting.

Amanda's king-sized quilt.
Becky's king-sized quilt, to replace the queen one she recently made.
Becky also made a nautical themed baby quilt.  She's been busy!
Danette made a number of Japanese blocks from Susan Briscoe's book.
Anna was commissioned to make this baby quilt using fabric scraps from clothes, towels, etc.
Grace finally finished her wedding ring quilt, after ... ahem ... a few years.
Denise made this colorful piece, among other things!
And of course, a bonus photo for the week.  Julie showing off her new patterns!
